Jainism is derived from the Sanskrit Ji, " to conquer " Conquer is to
win over the desire of materialistic world, passion & senses of ones body through
the path of Love, Knowledge & Penance (Sadhana), thus purifying the soul to reach
supreme spiritual goal. This wining over is not through a battle of
suppression (Abate), but meditating one’s way to (subside) curtaining down desires
of mind, one after another, till it ceases to be. The ascetic who achieves
the supreme stage of purity & omniscience is called Jina (conquerer) & his followers
are known as Jains. Jainism co-existed with Hinduism & Buddhism in India.
More than religion it is a philosophical way of living life to attain Moksha (Salvation).
Jainism contributed largely to the Indian psyche of nonviolence & cultural
tradition of love & respect, which even today is reflected in the Indian society
irrespective of religic faith. |
